ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Maqekoane developed a passion for tax when he was the Group Reporting Manager at a South African subsidiary of a global investment bank that was the biggest in the world, by market capitalisation, at that time. One of his responsibilities was tax calculations and corporate tax compliance.

 

He enrolled for special courses in tax through Unisa and the University of Johannesburg. This studying culminated in an Honours degree in taxation through the University of Pretoria. He later qualified as an ACCA Chartered Accountant and then completed a Masters degree in Professional Accountancy through the University of London. His junior degree was in Accounting from the University of Limpopo; he holds other post-graduate qualifications.

 

He is registered at SARS as a Tax Practitioner through another professional body that he is a member of. He has a senior tax professional designation.

 

His first lecturing role was at the College of Chartered Accountants; he has also lectured at the Charterquest Institute in Rivonia, Johannesburg. He also guides and supervises students outside the ACCA and CIMA programmes.
